1. The Conjuring Series (2013 & 2016)

In 1971, the Perrons move their family into an Island farm house and soon strange things start happening around it with escalating nightmarish terror. In desperation, they contact the noted paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to examine the house. What the Warrens discover is a whole area steeped in a satanic haunting that is now targeting the Perron family wherever they go. To stop this evil, the Warrens will have to call upon all their skills and spiritual strength to defeat this spectral menace at its source that threatens to destroy everyone involved.

In 1977, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren travel to London, England, where single mother Peggy Hodgson believes that something evil is in her home. When Peggy's youngest daughter starts showing signs of demonic possession, Ed and Lorraine attempt to help the besieged girl, only to find themselves targeted by the malicious spirits.

2. Shutter (2004)

After hitting a young woman with her car, Jane and her photographer boyfriend, Tun, begin seeing a shadowy figure haunting the background of Tun's photographs. Concerned that the figure is the vengeful spirit of the young woman from the accident, Jane does some research and soon discovers that the girl was named Natre and had been a classmate of Tun's. As the haunting continues, Jane uncovers a shocking secret.

3. A Tale Of Two Sisters (2009)

On returning home from a mental health facility, two sisters find that along with their stepmother, they have to find a way to deal with their late mother's ghost who begins to haunt them.

4. The Orphan (2009)

A couple, who recently lost their baby, adopts a nine-year-old girl. They soon find out that she has a troubled and mysterious past and she is not at all who she pretends to be.

5. The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

Reverend Moore performs a deadly exorcism on a girl believed to be possessed by demons. The prosecutor argues that the girl suffered from schizophrenia. Moore's defense lawyer has a different opinion.

6. Lights Out (2016)

The frantic pace and the scary ghost will keep you shivering long after the movie is over.

What started off as a viral YouTube short film, finally got a well deserved full length feature film. The movie deals with underlying themes of mental illness and depression but you never feel like the movie is getting too preachy. The opening sequence is one of the scariest to a movie lately. The pace never drops and the jump scares never feel cheap. That is where the beauty of this horror movie lies.

7. The Insidious Trilogy

Insidious is one of the best horror movies ever. Majority of us believe that the first part of the franchise is better than the other two but that solely depends on your choice. It could scare the hell out of you even in the broad daylight. The excellent sound effects and performances of the actors is irresistible.

8. Saw Series 

The franchise revolves around the main antagonist, John Kramer, also called the "Jigsaw Killer" or simply "Jigsaw".Rather than killing his victims outright, Jigsaw traps them in situations that he calls "tests" or "games" to test their will to live through physical or psychological torture.

9. The Ring Duology (2002)

A young journalist must investigate a mysterious videotape which seems to cause the death of anyone in a week of viewing it.

10. The Grudge Triology (2004, 2006 & 2009)

It focuses on those affected by a curse created in a house in Suginami by a deceased family's rage that destroys the lives of everyone who comes in contact with it. Known as "the ju-on", this curse causes its victims to become fatally afflicted with it, which in turn leads to a new curse being born and passed like a virus to all those who enter the family residence or come into contact with the curse in any way.
